How we tested
All five apps were evaluated on their current Shopify App Store listings and vendor pricing pages between October 1 and October 13, 2026. Marks are weighted toward published entry pricing, the realistic response cap on each tier, and the integrations a small Shopify store will actually use (Klaviyo, Omnisend, Meta Pixel, Shopify Flow).
Free Tier Sustainability
We read each vendor's current pricing page and Shopify App Store listing and recorded the exact free-plan response cap, time limit, and feature gating (branding removal, custom CSS, logic). An app whose free plan is capped above 50 monthly responses with core logic unlocked scored highest; a time-limited trial or a 10-response ceiling scored lowest.
Entry Paid Tier Value
We compared the lowest paid monthly plan each vendor publishes, divided by the number of included quiz responses or engagements on that plan, and recorded whether core features (conditional logic, custom CSS, Klaviyo sync) are included at that tier or gated above it. A plan that unlocked all core features at the entry price scored highest.
Scaling Cost at 2,500 Responses
For a store that grows past the entry tier, we recorded each vendor's published monthly price for roughly 2,500 quiz responses or engagements per month (the typical cap a modestly successful DTC quiz hits once it is embedded on the home page). Lower published cost at that volume scored higher.
Integrations for a Small Shopify Store
We checked each vendor's published integrations page for native connections to Klaviyo, Omnisend, Mailchimp, Meta Pixel, Google Analytics 4, Shopify Flow, and Zapier. More named native integrations relevant to a small DTC stack scored higher; integrations gated to the top plan were counted at half weight.
AI Quiz Generation & Zero-Party Data
We read each product's documentation and pricing page to record whether AI quiz generation (from a catalog, brand brief, or product set) is included on the entry tier, and whether quiz answers can be pushed as tags or events to a connected email platform. Features gated above the entry tier scored lower.
We compared current published pricing, Shopify App Store listings, and documented integrations across five product recommendation quiz apps a small Shopify store would realistically install in late 2026. The full battery and the per-criterion marks are above. The notes below cover where the ranking turned and when the lower-ranked picks are still the right call.
Why Shop Quiz by RevenueHunt leads
RevenueHunt wins on the dimension that decides this category for a founder-led or small-team Shopify store: the cost of actually running the thing. The free plan is capped at 100 quiz responses per month with unlimited quizzes, custom design, conditional logic, Shopify Markets integration, and CSV lead export. That’s enough to validate the quiz on real traffic before anyone opens a credit card. When a store does graduate, the Basic plan at $39/month includes custom HTML/CSS/JS, GA4, Meta Pixel, Klaviyo, Omnisend, Webhooks, and Zapier at the entry tier, not gated above it. The app carries the Built for Shopify badge.
The trade-offs are real but narrow. The Basic plan tops out at 500 responses per month and the next step is the Pro plan at $99/month for 1,000 responses, so a quiz that lands on the home page will push a store up a tier within weeks. Add-to-cart from the results page is supported but doesn’t natively sync with most Shopify cart drawers, which means a theme-level adjustment is sometimes needed to keep the drawer cart in sync. For the typical small store that wants a quiz on its home page to capture emails and route shoppers to the right SKU, those are acceptable costs for the strongest value in the category.
If a quiz is part of a wider small-store conversion stack, pair it with the right downstream email flow. Our ranking of the AI customer win-back email tools we recommend for small Shopify stores covers the receive-end of the quiz lead.
When Lantern is the better pick
Lantern is the right call for a store that’s willing to pay from day one and wants every feature unlocked on the first paid plan. The Grow plan at $39/month covers 500 quiz takers with AI quiz generation, Logic Jumps, metafields, custom CSS, Shopify Flow triggers, A/B testing, and more than thirty integrations, none of which are gated to a higher tier. Pricing climbs cleanly from there ($59 for 750, $79 for 1,000, $99 for 1,500, and so on), which makes the next twelve months easier to model than most of its rivals. Lantern is also Built for Shopify and ships native cart drawer integration with the common Shopify drawers, which closes the one real gap we flagged on RevenueHunt.
The downside sits almost entirely on the free plan. 50 engagements per month and three single-choice questions is enough to see the product, not enough to launch on. For a store that’ll install, pay, and run the quiz in week one, that’s a non-issue.
When Octane AI still earns its price
Octane AI is the right pick when the quiz is really a Klaviyo or Attentive asset in disguise. Octane’s integration catalog documents native connections to Klaviyo, Attentive, Postscript, Recart, Gorgias, Meta Pixel, Google Analytics, Tapcart, and Shopify Flow, and the vendor says its quizzes work with every major Shopify subscription app (Recharge, Skio, Loop, Stay AI, Smartrr). For a DTC beauty, wellness, or supplement brand where the quiz answers are the segmentation layer for the entire email program, the depth matters.
The cost model matters just as much. The Basic plan is $50/month for 400 engagement credits (both quiz completions and AI features draw from the same bucket), and it caps the store at two quizzes with the Octane AI logo visible. A/B testing, custom CSS, unlimited quizzes, and hidden branding require the Plus plan at $200/month. A small store that isn’t already running Klaviyo flows will pay for depth it won’t use.
When Quizell is the right answer
Quizell is the sensible pick when the budget is strict or when the quiz needs richer input than multiple choice. The Lite plan at $15/month covers 500 engagements, removes Quizell branding, unlocks core integrations, and includes AI quiz generation, which beats most of the field on the entry price alone. The genuine differentiator is question type: file, image, and voice uploads are supported out of the box, which is the right fit for custom apparel, diagnostic skincare, and wellness quizzes where the shopper has to share context before a recommendation makes sense.
The limits are predictable. The Lite plan allows only one published quiz, and the more interesting features (custom CSS/JS, multi-language support, AI translations) are gated to the Plus plan at $49/month. Post-quiz email flows route through Klaviyo rather than running natively inside Quizell, which is fine for most small stores but means the real email program lives elsewhere.
What didn’t make the cut
Prehook is a competent, Shopify-native quiz funnel builder with Recall, conditional logic, multiple ending screens, and native integrations with Klaviyo, Omnisend, Postscript, Attentive, and GA4. We like the product. We can’t recommend it at current pricing. The Free Forever plan is 10 engagements per month (a demo, not an evaluation), the Basic plan is $45/month for 600 engagements with a $0.07 overage per additional engagement, and the Standard plan is $95/month for 2,000 engagements. At comparable volume, RevenueHunt is $39 for 500 responses with a wider documented integration list, and Lantern is $59 for 750 quiz takers with every feature unlocked and a Built for Shopify badge. The value math no longer works, which is why we mark Prehook Not Recommended at its current pricing.
A quiz is only one lever on a small Shopify store. For stores building out the rest of the conversion stack, our rankings of the AI UGC video ad generators we recommend for small Shopify and DTC stores and the AI website chat widgets we recommend for small-business lead capture cover the ad-creative and on-site-chat sides of the same job.
Questions Readers Ask
Which AI product recommendation quiz app do you recommend for a small Shopify store?
We recommend Shop Quiz by RevenueHunt for most small Shopify stores. The free plan at 100 responses per month is sustainable rather than a trial, the Basic plan at $39/month unlocks conditional logic, custom HTML/CSS/JS, and native integrations with Klaviyo, Omnisend, GA4, Meta Pixel, Webhooks, and Zapier, and the app carries the Built for Shopify badge. Lantern is the stronger pick if a store wants every feature (including A/B testing and metafields) unlocked on the first paid plan.
Is the free plan on any of these apps actually enough to launch?
On RevenueHunt's Shop Quiz, yes. 100 quiz responses per month with unlimited quizzes, conditional logic, Shopify Markets, and CSV export is enough for a small store to validate the quiz on real traffic before paying. Lantern's free plan allows 50 engagements and three single-choice questions, which is useful for building and testing but tight for a public launch. Octane AI, Quizell, and Prehook all run paid-first, with free trials rather than long-term free plans; Prehook's Free Forever plan is capped at 10 engagements per month and functions as a demo.
What should a $999/month Shopify store budget for a quiz app once it starts converting?
Plan on the second paid tier of whichever app you choose. A quiz embedded on the home page of a modestly successful DTC store will typically push past 500 responses a month within a few weeks, which means $99/month on RevenueHunt's Pro plan, $59 to $79/month on Lantern (750 to 1,000 quiz takers), $200/month on Octane AI's Plus plan if A/B testing or custom CSS matters, $49/month on Quizell's Plus plan, or $95/month on Prehook's Standard plan. Model the second tier before you install, not the first.
Do any of these apps post quiz answers directly into Klaviyo flows?
Yes. Octane AI documents the deepest native Klaviyo integration (quiz answers as profile properties and events, with pre-built flow blocks on the Plus tier). RevenueHunt, Lantern, Quizell, and Prehook all document native Klaviyo connections as well, and most publish native Omnisend, Mailchimp, Meta Pixel, and GA4 integrations alongside it. On every app in our set, the quality of the downstream email flow is the store's job, not the quiz app's.
Why did Prehook fall short of a recommendation?
The product itself is fine; the value math at current pricing isn't. Prehook's Free Forever plan is capped at 10 engagements per month, the Basic plan is $45/month for 600 engagements with a $0.07 overage per additional engagement, and the Standard plan is $95/month for 2,000 engagements. RevenueHunt is $39/month for 500 responses with a wider documented integration list, and Lantern is $59/month for 750 quiz takers with every feature unlocked. At the same volume, both deliver more for less, which is why we mark Prehook Not Recommended at its current pricing.
